Scott Hand
Brewer of Beers, Dreamer of Dreams, Scott passed from this world on September 1, 2021, surrounded by friends, family, and his soulmate, Melinda. Scott had been the head brewer at Monnik Beer Co in Louisville since they first opened in 2015 and had previously worked at Alltech Brewing. He was well-respected and loved for his brewing craft and expertise and is missed by many friends and colleagues in the beer community.
Scruffy Outlier Beer
Annually from January 1 through March 20 (Scott’s birthday) breweries around the Commonwealth brew a beer in Scott’s honor and memory. Using recipes from Scott’s archive each brewery puts their own twist into it and releases the beer denominated as “Scruffy Outlier”
Donations
A portion of proceeds from each participating brewery’s beer will be donated to the HOP Foundation in Scott’s name. HOP Foundation is working toward an endowment for a scholarship in Scott’s name at Madisonville Community College in their Fermentation Science program. The goal for funds raised during the 2023 fundraiser is $25,000
